"Baffin Bay Is Heating Up"The action in Baffin Bay is heating up rapidly. The weather has been a little more cooperative, and so have the fish. Actually from Corpus Christi Bay to Baffin the fish have been gathering up and putting on quite a show. Good daily catches have gotten everyone's attention and just about everyone has geared up for the season.
The birds have already begun working along the Intracoastal, and the King Ranch shoreline, and unlike last year there are some nice trout under them this year. Most of the trout found recently under the birds have been in the 17"-20" range with a few going to 23". These fish seem to be a little spooky when approached, so be patient and set up a drift to intersect them when you can rather than motoring up or using your trolling motor. For those of you that prefer throwing bait, live shrimp has become easier to get, so most of the bait stands will have a steady supply. Dick Gerstenberger from Coastal Bait (at Bluff Landing) says the shrimp are doing great, and there should be no problem keeping up with the demand for a while. The shrimp we have been getting are in excellent shape, and have been very good sized. So oil up your reels, clean out the tackle box, and head towards the coast. If you aren't familiar with the area or would just like to get in a great fishing trip, give me a call at 1-800-854-9673 to book a trip. Happy fishing! Capt. Byron Hough.
